Former Auburn offensive coordinator Chad Morris is anticipated to play a major role in elevating Clemson receiver Bryant Wesco Jr.

According to CBS Sports’ Brad Crawford, Morris’s high-tempo system should create plenty of opportunities for Wesco, especially with quarterback Christopher Vizzina a former Briarwood Christian standout helping him progress after injuries shortened his 2025 season.

Crawford notes that Wesco appeared in only six games last year after a back injury against SMU, yet still delivered strong performances, including two separate two-touchdown games. When fully healthy, Wesco is a deep-threat target, giving first-year starter Vizzina two true No. 1 receivers alongside T.J. Moore. Under Morris’s redesigned offense, Wesco is expected to receive even more chances, though the unit’s ceiling will depend heavily on quarterback play.

ESPN’s Bill Connelly believes Morris longtime friend of head coach Dabo Swinney should bring a significant upgrade to a Clemson offense that struggled under Garrett Riley in 2025.

Connelly wrote that although hiring familiar faces doesn’t always recreate past success and Morris hasn’t led a top-tier college offense since 2017, Clemson’s drop from 16th to 65th in offensive SP+ last season suggests improvement is still the most likely outcome.

Morris also plans to emphasize the run game.

He wants to introduce Wing T principles that could benefit explosive backs like Gideon Davidson and Chris Johnson Jr., the latter coming from SMU. A dominant ground attack is essential for Morris’s scheme, something Tank Bigsby showcased the last time Auburn had a winning season.

Clemson’s talented offensive line should give Morris what he lacked in 2020 when he struggled to get production from Bo Nix. With strong protection and a committed rushing attack, Morris is expected to set up more downfield passing opportunities.

If Clemson successfully establishes the run this fall, Morris should have everything he needs to help the Tigers’ offense operate smoothly with a well-prepared first-year quarterback and a solid supporting cast.
