A newly suggested blockbuster move has the Philadelphia Phillies making a run at a $426 million superstar a three-time MVP and 11-time All-Star as a dramatic upgrade over Justin Crawford.

The Phillies attempted to solve their outfield issues by acquiring Adolis García and promoting top prospect Justin Crawford, but neither has delivered the elite presence the lineup is missing.

According to FanSided’s Christopher Kline, there’s a potential answer: if Mike Trout keeps up his scorching start to the 2026 season, Philadelphia should seriously consider picking up the phone.

Phillies Would Land $426 Million 3-Time MVP in Blockbuster Trade Prediction - Newsweek

Kline argues that no list of Trout landing spots can be complete without the Phillies, a team that constantly needs outfield help. García’s early performance isn’t disastrous, but his age, strikeout concerns, and recent sub-.700 OPS season make him unreliable. Brandon Marsh also isn’t guaranteed to anchor the outfield long-term.

Trout, meanwhile, has Philadelphia roots. He loves the local sports teams, grew up supporting the Phillies, and a homecoming would seem fitting. Kline notes that while Philly fans might not crave the unpredictability that comes with Trout’s health history, he would still fill a major hole in the middle of the lineup and give the Phillies the power they currently lack. A core of Trea Turner, Trout, Kyle Schwarber, and Bryce Harper would be an intimidating force. The move would strengthen the defense, solve their four-hole production issues, and send a clear message that the franchise is committed to winning.

Trout has opened the season on fire, hitting .556/.733/1.222/1.956 with five hits, including two home runs, plus three RBI and a stolen base in just three games. His career numbers are even more spectacular: a .294 average, .407 OBP, .571 slugging, 406 home runs, 1021 RBI, 215 steals, and 325 doubles across 1,651 games.

He’s in the eighth year of his 12-year, $426.5 million contract a figure not much higher than what the Phillies reportedly offered Bo Bichette over seven years.

If Trout keeps performing like this, the Phillies would be foolish not to at least explore a trade. Closing out his legendary career with his hometown team, while chasing a World Series, would be a perfect final chapter.
