The Philadelphia Phillies enter the season with some of the strongest World Series odds in Major League Baseball. Their lineup, rotation, and bullpen rank among the league’s best, and after several successful seasons, they look like clear contenders again. Despite an imperfect start, their 5–4 record still shows they’re firmly in the mix.
According to David Schoenfield of ESPN, a new metric backs up the hype. ESPN’s “Watchability Index” ranks the Phillies as the most watchable team in all of MLB.
Phillies named MLB’s most watchable team
Philadelphia topped the entire league with a score of 33 out of 40, finishing ahead of the Los Angeles Dodgers, who came in at 30.
Schoenfield notes that this isn’t shocking since the Phillies ranked third last year, but several factors boosted them even higher this season. Kyle Schwarber is coming off a near-MVP season in 2025, elevating his star profile, and Cristopher Sanchez emerged as a Cy Young–level pitcher who could become one of MLB’s premier arms with another big year.

The team earned a 14/15 “Star Power” grade thanks to Schwarber, Sanchez, Bryce Harper, and the rest of Philadelphia’s stacked roster.
For the “Young Talent” category, the Phillies scored an 8/10. Top prospect Andrew Painter impressed in his debut, and Justin Crawford looks like a legitimate everyday center fielder, flashing elite speed, great contact skills, and solid defense.
They also received an 8/10 for “Baseball Stuff,” a metric reflecting pure on-field quality.
In the “Bonus” section, the Phillies were awarded 3/5 points:
+1 for having MLB’s best uniforms,
+1 for the atmosphere at Citizens Bank Park,
+0.5 for Trea Turner’s elite speed,
+0.5 for the Phillie Phanatic.

When everything was tallied, Philadelphia finished well ahead of the field, beating out the Dodgers, the New York Mets, and every other team with a commanding 33/40 score.
According to ESPN’s index, no team in baseball is more entertaining to watch right now than the Phillies—a great sign for their fanbase.
