Kansas State Adds Well-Traveled Big Man with History Under Coach Alexander

Brock Vice, a 6’10”, 240-pound forward most recently with the Murray State Racers, is the first transfer portal commitment for new Kansas State head coach Casey Alexander. A member of the 2023 recruiting class, Vice originally signed with Creighton out of Houston High School in Memphis, Tennessee, where he averaged 17.5 points and 14 rebounds as a senior. Ranked as the 40th center nationally, the third-best player in Tennessee, and a 3-star prospect, he chose Creighton over Belmont, St. Louis, and Tulsa.

After redshirting at Creighton, Vice entered the transfer portal and moved to North Texas. His time there was limited he appeared in only five games during the 2024-25 season. Seeking more opportunity, he transferred again, this time to Murray State, where as a redshirt sophomore he finally saw regular action. He played in 30 games off the bench, averaging 2 points and 2 rebounds in roughly five minutes per contest.

Yes, those numbers are modest but there’s more to the story.

Coach Alexander Trusts His Instincts
One thing to know about Coach Alexander: he goes after players he believes in, even if their paths have been unconventional. He originally tried to recruit Vice to Belmont out of high school but lost him to Creighton. Alexander has long seen Vice as a good fit for his system, and that hasn’t changed.

Kansas State’s style relies on a big man who can operate on the perimeter Vice’s specialty. He can pick-and-pop, drive opposing centers off the bounce, and contribute on the boards, making him a perfect fit for a 5-out offensive system. Skilled big men with his size and versatility aren’t easy to find, and Vice checks those boxes.

Why This Move Makes Sense
Alexander’s approach has always been about trusting his evaluations over conventional recruiting rankings, often bringing in players who outperform expectations elsewhere. Vice was low hanging fruit due to his prior connection with Alexander. Kansas State needed skilled size, Vice brings that skill, and both sides were comfortable with each other making this a natural fit.

If you’re skeptical about Vice’s past stats, it’s worth holding judgment until you see him in Alexander’s system. Expect more contributions from Kansas State’s portal additions as the roster takes shape.
