Julian Elzey, a 3-star, 6’0”, 170-pound safety from Brookwood High School in Lilburn, Georgia, announced his commitment to the Wildcats on March 30.
Elzey’s list of offers reads like a roll call of major programs in the Southeast. Schools such as Georgia, Georgia Tech, Florida, Miami, and Auburn among others have shown interest. According to the Rivals Industry Ranking, he’s rated as the No. 74 player in Georgia, the No. 65 safety nationally, and the No. 638 overall prospect in the 2027 class.

While the offer sheet is impressive, I try not to overvalue offers these days since some programs hand them out generously. Still, Elzey clearly has legitimate attention from some of college football’s top tier programs.
He’s fairly new to the secondary, having transitioned from wide receiver midway through his sophomore year. In his first full season at safety, he recorded 71 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, 4 pass breakups, and even a blocked punt. His strengths include versatility and consistency in open-field tackling; he topped 10 tackles in three different games last season. Beyond being a dependable tackler, he can line up all over the field. K-State will have the flexibility to use him at corner, nickel, or either safety spot. Personally, I could see him fitting well at corner due to his ability to defend short passing plays, though his instincts also make him a strong candidate to stay at safety.

Ultimately, the coaching staff will likely bring him to campus and determine his best fit once they see him in person.
I’m certainly no recruiting guru, and I don’t claim to have all the answers, but at first glance, this appears to be a significant pickup for K-State’s defensive coaches in a key recruiting state. Since I live in that state, I’ll try to catch one of his games this fall.
I’ll be sure to show up in my K-State gear and share any insights afterward.
