Robbie Ray teamed up with two relievers to allow just four hits in a 6–0 shutout victory over Philadelphia.

Matt Chapman and rookie catcher Daniel Susac powered the Giants’ offense with three hits apiece, while Luis Arraez drove in two runs to help San Francisco (4–8) avoid tying its worst season start since 2015.

Realmuto departed in the second inning with a bruised foot, and Sánchez (1–1) was charged with four runs — only two earned — while striking out six over five innings. The left-hander had previously given up just one run across his first two outings. After Realmuto’s exit, Rafael Marchán handled catching duties.

Ray (2–1) was in control from the start, allowing three hits over 6 2/3 innings with seven strikeouts and three walks. Ryan Walker recorded four key outs, working out of trouble in both the seventh and eighth, before Keaton Winn retired the side in order in the ninth to lock down the Giants’ first shutout of the season.

With two outs in the fifth, Chapman doubled over the reach of left fielder Otto Kemp, bringing home Susac. In the sixth, Jung Hoo Lee, pinch-hitting, lifted a sacrifice fly, and Susac capped his night with a two-run triple in the eighth.

The 24-year-old Susac is now 6-for-7 with a walk through his first two major league games. He became the first MLB player to start his career 5-for-5 since Ted Cox of the Boston Red Sox in 1977. His streak ended with a flyout in the sixth inning.

In Wednesday’s series finale, Phillies right-hander Aaron Nola (1–0, 3.18 ERA) is set to face Giants right-hander Tyler Mahle (0–2, 7.00).
