Kansas State’s top long-range threat is officially heading elsewhere.
Abdi Bashir the Wildcats’ most efficient three-point shooter after hitting 44.4% from deep last season has entered the transfer portal. The 6-foot-7, 175-pound guard is moving on after just one year in Manhattan. In his lone season at K-State, he averaged 13.2 points and 1.9 rebounds while knocking down 67 threes on 151 attempts.

K-State picked up Bashir last offseason following his breakout at Monmouth, where he put up 20.1 points per game and connected on 127 threes as a sophomore. His shooting ability translated well to the Big 12, but injuries cut his season short. A broken foot sidelined him for the final 14 games, and the Wildcats limped to a 12-win finish. Before the injury, he showed flashes of star potential including a 26-point outing against Nebraska in which he buried seven three-pointers. He scored at least 15 points in eight other games.

Bashir’s exit doesn’t come as a shock. The coach who brought him to K-State, Jerome Tang, was recently fired, and new head coach Casey Alexander has openly acknowledged that he anticipates roster changes as he builds his first-year squad. With one year of eligibility left, Bashir will be a highly intriguing name to watch on the transfer market: elite perimeter shooter, but still developing on the defensive end.
He becomes the fourth Wildcat to hit the portal since the season ended at the Big 12 Tournament.
