College basketball moves quicker than ever these days, and for former Mr. Kentucky Basketball Travis Perry, his college career has officially entered “journeyman” territory. After beginning at Kentucky and transferring to Ole Miss following one season, he’s already decided Oxford wasn’t the right fit either. In truth, Perry seems to have concluded that the SEC as a whole no longer suits him.

The Eddyville native has now picked his next stop and it brings him much closer to home. Perry has committed to play for head coach Anthony Grant and the Dayton Flyers, according to On3.
The SEC Reality Check
When Perry left Kentucky for Ole Miss, the expectation was that a fresh start under Chris Beard might spark a breakout. And while his production did rise, it wasn’t quite the leap either side hoped for. His numbers still suggest a guard trying to find consistent footing in one of the toughest leagues in the country:
- 2024–25 (Kentucky): 2.7 PPG, 0.6 AST, 32.1% from three in 9.8 minutes
- 2025–26 (Ole Miss): 5.3 PPG, 1.1 AST, 35.3% from three in 16.4 minutes
He started 16 games for the Rebels and showed more flashes than he did in Lexington, but it wasn’t until the SEC Tournament that he truly carved out a major role. Playing 19 minutes vs. Texas, then 30 vs. Georgia, 33 vs. Alabama, and 37 vs. Arkansas, he finally demonstrated what extended opportunity could look like. That late surge likely opened the door for him to move on.

Why Kentucky Was Never in the Cards
Whenever a homegrown player hits the portal, Kentucky fans naturally ask whether a return could be possible. But this time, Kentucky was never a serious option for Perry.
His style simply doesn’t align with the system Mark Pope runs, which was a major factor in his initial departure. Certain players don’t thrive under Pope’s approach, especially those coming off the bench with limited minutes. A move to Dayton, however, looks like a near-perfect match.
Ideal Fit in the A-10
Choosing Dayton may be the smartest move Perry could make heading into his junior year. Under Coach Grant, the Flyers have been balanced and competitive, but they desperately needed shooting this past season — ranking 182nd in three-point percentage and 200th in threes made. Perry can immediately help in that department and potentially thrive in a larger, more consistent role.
Kentucky fans will still have reasons to cheer for the in-state product, and with Dayton just a short trip from home, watching him succeed there feels like a fitting chapter in his winding college journey. Unless the Wildcats face the Flyers, of course then all bets are off. But otherwise, the BBN can comfortably root for their former Cat.
