AUBURN, Ala.  Auburn University is officially moving ahead with the most expensive capital project in its athletic program’s history.

On Friday, the board of trustees gave final approval for a new multipurpose facility and an adjacent plaza on the north end of Jordan-Hare Stadium, a combined project estimated at $323 million. The facility itself accounts for $305 million of that total, while the plaza will cost $18 million.

Construction is set to begin this summer. Auburn expects part of the development to be ready for use by fall 2028, with full completion targeted for spring 2029.

Auburn athletic director John Cohen expressed how meaningful the project is, saying that even decades from now, it will remain a point of pride for the entire university community—not just the athletic department.

The seven-story expansion will add 3,000 premium seats and broaden on-campus dining offerings. It will also include flexible event and conference areas, retail spaces, student activity zones and meeting rooms.

Auburn last upgraded the stadium ahead of the 2025 season with a $25.7 million video board installed in the same end zone.
