The addition of Byrum Brown from the USF Bulls has significantly reshaped how the Auburn Tigers are viewed nationally. While Auburn fans initially showed support during Bryan Harsin’s tenure before losing faith in 2022, and later held onto hope throughout Hugh Freeze’s time on the Plains, Alex Golesh arrives with a proven track record from Tampa. Along with Brown, Auburn benefits from a familiar offensive system led by Joel Gordon and key playmakers like Keshaun Singleton, Chas Nimrod, Christian Neptune, Jeremiah Koger, and Kory Pettigrew.

That momentum has even led Billy Tucker of ESPN to label Auburn a potential “contender” heading into 2026. Tucker believes Brown will immediately elevate the offense, citing his established chemistry with receivers and deep familiarity with the system. He also expects growth in Brown’s dual-threat ability, noting improvements in both his passing and physicality as a runner. According to Tucker, Brown’s leadership, versatility, and command of the scheme position him as the centerpiece in turning Auburn into a consistent, high-powered unit.

Looking ahead, Auburn could become a dangerous opponent for anyone on its 2026 schedule. The success Curt Cignetti had transitioning from the James Madison Dukes to the Indiana Hoosiers suggests Golesh could make a similar leap—especially since he’s coming from a highly competitive American conference into a league where only the Georgia Bulldogs consistently dominate.

While beating Georgia on the road remains a major challenge, Auburn has a realistic shot at pulling off an Iron Bowl upset in Tuscaloosa. Unlike in recent seasons, few top SEC programs will view Auburn as an automatic win.

With renewed belief building around the program, the Tigers appear close to recapturing their energy at Jordan-Hare Stadium and beyond. Much of that optimism centers on Brown and Golesh, who are driving expectations for a turnaround in 2026.
