Plenty of options remain in the transfer portal for Power Four programs, including first-year Kansas State head coach Casey Alexander. Now, several early commits are officially showing up in Manhattan.

Kansas State target Devin Hutcherson debuts in a Wildcats uniform
One of Alexander’s earliest pickups was Devin Hutcherson, a 2027 recruit who originally pledged to Belmont. After Alexander accepted the Kansas State job, Hutcherson chose to follow him. His commitment, first shared on social media and reported by the Topeka Capital-Journal, came in March. He joins fellow 2027 signee Jaylen Alexander, the Alabama Mr. Basketball winner.

As a senior, Hutcherson put up 19.1 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. Before choosing the Wildcats, he drew interest from programs such as Georgia Tech, Ole Miss, and Georgia State, among others. He’s expected to be one of four forwards in this year’s rotation alongside Isaiah Abraham, Matt Gilhool, and Dezdrick Lindsay.

What Hutcherson adds to Kansas State
Alexander made it clear upon arriving in Manhattan that he didn’t plan on overhauling the roster every offseason. But securing Hutcherson and Alexander early showed he’s more than willing to prioritize young talent.

Hutcherson fits into Alexander’s broader vision of player development and long-term retention, with the potential to eventually slide into a guard role as he grows. If he earns a starting spot, he could even have an advantage over incoming transfers.

Throughout high school, he was a versatile wing—an area where the Wildcats will need reliable production in Big 12 play. Off the bench, he could fill the same role previously held by players like Arian Kostic or Taj Manning.
