Frustration boiled over again for the Gator baseball team in their second straight SEC home series. On Saturday, Florida jumped out to an early lead before Auburn stormed back with eight unanswered runs to hand the Gators an 8–5 loss.

Thursday had been a very different story. Aidan King delivered another stellar outing, earning his fifth win while allowing just one earned run on three hits with eight strikeouts. Blake Cyr powered the offense with a three-run blast to secure a 6–3 victory over the Tigers.

But Friday and Saturday, the Gators’ offensive issues resurfaced. On Friday, yet another late lead slipped away in a 5–3 defeat—despite loading the bases for Karson Bowen, who isn’t built for cleanup moments, and Florida’s walk-off hopes evaporated in half a minute.

Saturday’s troubles were highlighted by defensive miscues, especially at third base. Kolt Myers handled the spot in the first two games, but Ethan Surowiec—who had never played third for Florida—looked the part of a newcomer, committing four errors on his own. Cyr remained a bright spot, finishing a monster series with four home runs and nine RBIs. King and Peterson held up their end, but Russell Sandefer couldn’t get through the sixth, the bullpen wore down, and Auburn poured in five runs in the final inning.

Still, you can’t count out the Gators. Four weekends remain.

Florida has taken two straight road series and has opportunities ahead at Oklahoma and a surprisingly struggling LSU. But first up at Condron are Texas A&M and Kentucky—programs that rarely win there. The Aggies haven’t taken a series in Gainesville since 2006, and the Wildcats have managed only two since 1999.

As it stands, the Gators still have a shot… for now.
