David Castillo is taking his college basketball career out west. After two seasons at Kansas State (Shop K-State), the 6-foot-1, 180-pound guard signed with Santa Clara on Wednesday. He’ll suit up for the Broncos in the West Coast Conference, having spent the past two years with the Wildcats in the Big 12. This past season under Jerome Tang, Castillo averaged 10.3 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 1.8 assists, appearing in all 32 games with 16 starts. While some fans hoped he’d stay at Bramlage Coliseum for another year in purple, he chose to explore other opportunities following Tang’s firing and the hiring of Casey Alexander. Santa Clara is coming off a 26-win season that ended with an NCAA Tournament appearance. Castillo hopes to help the Broncos build on that momentum and revitalize his own career in a new time zone next season. He becomes the fourth departing Kansas State player to join a new college program.
