Former Kansas State guard David Castillo is moving out west for his junior year. The 6-foot-1 guard, who spent his first two college seasons with the Wildcats after a strong high school reputation, has committed to Santa Clara, according to a report from League RDY.

As a sophomore at K-State, Castillo posted averages of 10.3 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game. He entered the transfer portal shortly after a disappointing season for the Wildcats, which ended with a 12-20 record, the firing of head coach Jerome Tang, and a first-round loss in the Big 12 Tournament.
In a game captured by an Associated Press photo, Castillo (No. 10) is seen attempting to pass around Nebraska forward Berke Buyuktuncel during the second half of a college basketball matchup on November 21, 2025, in Kansas City, Missouri.

Now heading to Santa Clara, Castillo aims to become the next Bronco to make it to the professional level under coach Herb Sendek. Over the past five years, Sendek has guided Jalen Williams and Brandin Podziemski to the NBA following impressive seasons at Santa Clara. Podziemski’s rise came after limited playing time at Illinois the previous year.
With Gonzaga leaving the West Coast Conference for the newly formed Pac-12 next season, Castillo and Santa Clara are expected to be early favorites to win the conference and earn an NCAA Tournament bid.
