It seems almost unavoidable that third baseman Alec Bohm will eventually part ways with the Philadelphia Phillies.

Bohm has been mentioned in trade speculation for several seasons, and his slow start at the plate isn’t helping. Across 29 games, he’s slashing just .151/.218/.208, with only one home run and an 18 OPS+.

To put that in perspective, Bohm has been 82% worse offensively than a typical replacement-level player. While the Phillies have stumbled out of the gate, they could still look to upgrade at third base if they get back into postseason contention.

FanSided’s Christopher Kline suggests the Phillies and Houston Astros might be a good trade match, especially given Houston’s crowded infield situation.

“He avoids strikeouts, but [Isaac] Paredes is an extreme pull hitter with limited pop. Too often, he’s hitting weak pop flies to left or rolling grounders to short,” Kline wrote Wednesday. “Still, his skill set fits certain ballparks Philadelphia makes sense as a team needing a third baseman and Paredes is 28, a two-time All-Star, with another year left on his deal. Teams will show interest.”

Paredes would bring a bit more power to the Phillies’ hot corner. The 27-year-old hit 20 homers in 2025 and posted a career-high 31 back in 2023 with the Tampa Bay Rays.

With the Astros heading in the wrong direction, they’re likely to sell off assets before the trade deadline and Paredes could be part of that fire sale.

For the Phillies, acquiring Paredes would give them their third baseman for 2027. Bohm is set to become a free agent after this season.
