During a recent Flyers playoff game, the Philadelphia Phillies received a harsh reception from their own city’s fans. Taking advantage of a postponed game on Wednesday, April 29, several Phillies players including Trea Turner, Kyle Schwarber, JT Realmuto, and Jesus Luzardo showed up to watch the Flyers defeat the Pittsburgh Penguins at Xfinity Mobile Arena and advance to the second round. However, Philadelphia sports fans weren’t exactly thrilled to see them.

When the Phillies appeared on the Jumbotron during the third period, the crowd erupted in boos. One fan remarked, “That’s awful they never should have been shown on the Jumbotron.” Another added, “Lack of effort will get you booed all the time in Philly, and this Phillies team plays dead. But the Flyers play hard every shift.”

The Phillies have had a tough season, sitting second-to-last in the National League standings, just above the New York Mets. They recently endured a 10-game losing streak their first of that length since 1999 and currently hold an 11–19 record. On April 24, star player Bryce Harper addressed the slide, telling reporters, “Yeah, it’s not great. Obviously, it’s not where we want to be. I’ve said it multiple times. It’s like beating a dead horse, man. We can all say the same thing every day. Nobody wants to hear it. We’ve just got to win. Plain and simple.”

The team also fired its general manager on April 28, with Don Mattingly stepping in as interim manager. On a more positive note, the Phillies have since bounced back to win two games against the Giants, shutting them out 7–0 on April 28 and winning 3–2 on April 30 in the first game of a doubleheader following the postponement.

As for the Flyers, after eliminating their in-state rivals in the first round of the NHL playoffs, they now await either the Montreal Canadiens or the Tampa Bay Lightning in the next round.
