Wildcats Close Out First Outdoor Test at Stanford Invitational
STANFORD, Calif. – K-State wrapped up its second day of action at the Stanford Invitational on Saturday (April 4) at Angell Track & Cobb Field, turning in multiple standout performances across the board.
The Wildcats excelled in the triple jump invitational, producing four top-three finishes. Sophomore Selva Prabhu claimed the men’s title with a 15.76m (51′ 8.5″) jump, while senior transfer Apalos Edwards from Arkansas secured 2nd at 15.27m (50′ 1.25″).
On the women’s side, freshman Destini Smith posted 13.03m (42′ 9″) to finish runner-up, just ahead of senior Tesia Thomas, who landed 3rd with a 12.97m (42′ 6.75″) jump.
Junior sprinter Tah Chikomba improved his 100-meter time from prelims to 10.33 seconds in the final, tying for 6th all-time in K-State history.
In the 800 meters, junior Tavon Underwood produced one of the day’s biggest highlights. His 1:48.30 marked a three-second personal best and placed him ninth on the program’s all-time list. Freshman Anna Pozdeeva also delivered, winning her section of the women’s 800 in a personal-best 2:08.03.
K-State relays added more strong results.
The men’s 4×100 squad Jack Guthridge, Nen Matlock, Cyrus Ways and Chikomba took 2nd in 40.40 seconds. Ways, Matlock, Underwood and Guthridge returned to win the 4×400 with a 3:07.38.
The women’s 4×100 team of Maud Zeffou-Poaty, Vanessa Mercera, Desirae Riehle and Delaney Brinker earned 2nd in 45.22. The 4×400 quartet of Riehle, Brinker, Anastasiia Kretova and Mercera matched that finish with a 3:35.17.
Sophomore Lindsey Cure made a strong debut in her first meet as a Wildcat, placing 3rd in the women’s collegiate javelin with a throw of 46.23m (151′ 8″), only six inches off her personal record.
Next up for the Wildcats is the Oregon Team Invitational on April 17–18 at Hayward Field, following the inaugural high school K-State Relays on April 10–11 at R.V. Christian Track
