Miami head coach Mario Cristobal had been expecting a major commitment on Saturday, April 25, but the situation may be shifting. As four-star running back Myson Johnson-Cook gets ready to announce his final decision, two SEC programs are making a late surge, with one potentially taking the lead.

Johnson-Cook had originally whittled his options down to Miami, Auburn, Kentucky, LSU, and Ole Miss, but it now appears to be a three-team race featuring Miami, Auburn, and Kentucky. Although Miami was seen as the front-runner poised to secure another key pledge, Auburn has recently gained momentum.

According to Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong, Auburn head coach Alex Golesh hosted Johnson-Cook for a multi-day visit his second trip to Auburn. This follows his third visit to Miami during the recruiting cycle. While 247Sports still gives Johnson-Cook a 100% prediction to choose Miami, the Auburn visit could create late uncertainty. Per 247Sports Composite rankings, Johnson-Cook is rated the No. 46 overall prospect in the Class of 2027, the No. 4 running back, and the No. 3 player in Illinois.

Even if Johnson-Cook doesn’t pick Miami, Cristobal isn’t necessarily out of the running the young back has an official visit scheduled with the Hurricanes for May 29. He also has official visits lined up with Auburn (June 5) and Ole Miss (June 19). Miami fans will be on edge as Johnson-Cook announces his decision live Saturday on the Rivals YouTube channel.
