Any doubts about Alex Golesh’s recruiting ability may have just been put to rest. In a surprising turn, four-star running back Myson Johnson-Cook committed to Auburn on Saturday, choosing the Tigers over Miami. Although the Hurricanes had been the favorites, Auburn’s relentless pursuit of the standout playmaker from East St. Louis, Illinois, paid off.

Alabama's relentless approach toward flipping Auburn 4-star must terrify Alex Golesh

Golesh had promised Auburn wouldn’t take a backseat to anyone in recruiting, and Johnson-Cook’s unexpected pledge is proof. Miami was considered the frontrunner for the elite back, but Auburn kept pushing and refused to be intimidated.

This marks Golesh’s first real recruiting win. Most fans feel good about Golesh in many areas, but recruiting remained a question mark. At South Florida, he leaned on the transfer portal to bring in players dropping down from Power Four programs. Now at Auburn, he must show he can land top high school talent.

Johnson-Cook visited Auburn’s campus last week, where it’s believed Golesh and his staff made a powerful final impression—sending a clear message to college football that the Tigers are competing hard on the recruiting trail this year.

Myson Johnson-Cook’s commitment is huge… truly huge
It’s a major commitment from a physically imposing player who fits Auburn’s long history of running backs. At 6-foot-2 and 235 pounds, Johnson-Cook looks like a grown man. With his blend of power and speed, you could compare him to any number of former Tigers—Stephen Davis, Rudi Johnson with more height, or a slightly thicker Ronnie Brown. Whatever the comparison, his potential is clear.

Johnson-Cook is the third commit in Auburn’s 2027 class and by far the highest-rated. He joins four-star defensive tackle Donivan Moore and four-star tight end George Lamons Jr., who committed to the Tigers last week.

Momentum is building in Auburn’s direction, and all eyes are on who will be the next future star on the Plains.
