The ongoing recruitment of Tyran Stokes has taken yet another surprising twist arguably the most unexpected one to date. As Kansas supporters are aware, Stokes is the top-ranked prospect in the 2026 class, with Kansas and Kentucky locked in an intense battle for his commitment.

Both programs have pulled out all the stops to secure Stokes’ pledge, but Kentucky recently made a move that stands out as the most extraordinary. According to Kentucky Sports Radio, the Wildcats have offered a position as an assistant coach to Jamal Crawford, the former NBA star and current assistant coach at Rainier Beach High School.

Stokes shares a strong bond with Crawford, having worked together as player and coach at the same high school. Kentucky’s job offer to Crawford appears to be a calculated tactic to lure Stokes to Lexington. Stokes himself confirmed on an Instagram live session that Kentucky had indeed offered Crawford a coaching role.

The Tyran Stokes saga may soon reach its conclusion

Jeff Goodman reports that Stokes might finally bring an end to the prolonged recruitment process, with rumors suggesting he could announce his decision on Monday. Fans from both Kansas and Kentucky will be on edge all day, though Goodman himself hinted that the situation might seem almost too perfect.

Stokes has taken his time with his decision originally expected to commit toward the end of 2025, he now appears ready to choose in April 2026. He has wavered primarily between Kansas and Kentucky, though Oregon has also made occasional pushes for his pledge.

This Tyran Stokes Connection May Give Kentucky an Edge Over Kansas

Multiple visits have been made to both Kansas and Kentucky, with Stokes’ most recent trip to Lexington leading Wildcats fans to believe they have the edge. At the same time, Stokes has appreciated everything Kansas has to offer, though NIL brand deals seem to be complicating matters.

A decision will have to come soon, as Stokes’ high school career winds down and the college basketball world awaits his next move. The big question remains: will he suit up for Kansas or Kentucky? Only time will tell.
