In Game 2 of their matchup with the San Francisco Giants, the Philadelphia Phillies hoped to secure back-to-back wins for the first time since the period of March 31 through April 4.

May 27, 2025; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA; Philadelphia Phillies second base Edmundo Sosa (33) and third base Alec Bohm (28) celebrate win against the Atlanta Braves at Citizens Bank Park.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be, as weather had other ideas. The April 29 game was rained out, forcing the teams to play a doubleheader on April 30.

Game 1 is scheduled for 12:35 PM ET, with both clubs sending their aces to the mound: Cristopher Sanchez for the Phillies, opposite Logan Webb of the Giants.

For the first time since Don Mattingly took over as interim manager after Rob Thomson was dismissed 28 games into the season he’s altering his lineup. It’s not a huge surprise, since some players will need rest during one of the two games.

Phillies resting Alec Bohm for Game 1 vs. Giants

Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm (28) celebrates his RBI double.

The lone change for Game 1 comes at third base. Alec Bohm is out against Webb, with Edmundo Sosa taking his place, batting seventh and handling the hot corner.

The versatile Sosa has faced Webb just twice in his career, collecting one hit and one RBI, with a strikeout in the other at-bat.

Otherwise, the lineup looks like it has for most of the 2026 season. Trea Turner leads off and plays shortstop; he’s been on a hot streak lately.

Turner carries a modest four-game hitting streak, including a four-hit performance in Mattingly’s first game as skipper, helping raise his average by nearly 30 points. Getting Turner going could spark the team’s sluggish offense.

Batting second is DH Kyle Schwarber. His average isn’t pretty, but he’s delivering power and getting on base at a solid rate in true three-outcome fashion.

Bryce Harper hits third and plays first base. He’s dominated Webb in their matchups, going 4-for-8 with a homer and three RBI. Adolis Garcia bats cleanup and plays right field; he’s struggled against the Giants’ ace, going 0-for-7 with three strikeouts.

Brandon Marsh hits fifth and plays left field. In a lineup full of high-paid All-Stars, he’s been the most consistent producer this season.

Bryson Stott hits sixth and plays second base. Like Bohm, he’s had major struggles. If they don’t turn things around soon, Philadelphia may need to upgrade its infield production.

After Sosa in the seven-hole, center fielder Justin Crawford bats eighth, and catcher Rafael Marchan bats ninth. Crawford and Marchan are the only two in the lineup who have never faced Webb before.
